Animal Control

The Hoisington Police Department receives hundreds of animal related calls each year. The primary responsibilities of the Department’s Animal Control Officer is public safety, animal protection, and animal complaint resolution. These goals are accomplished through a combination of education and the enforcement of municipal and state laws pertaining to animals. The Animal Control Officer performs a variety of field services, which include:

Patrol city streets and parks to ensure compliance with animal laws.
Impound stray, sick, or injured domestic animal and wildlife.
Enforce Hoisington Municipal Code (i.e. dog licensing, leash law, sanitation, etc.).
Work with local vet to complete animal bite reports and quarantine biting animals.
Respond to animal complaints (i.e. barking dogs, stray animals, nuisance wildlife, etc.).
Investigate reports of aggressive animals.
Investigate reports of animal neglect or abuse.
Pick up and disposal of dead animals.

The Animal Control Officer is charged with impounding stray, abandoned, abused, dangerous, or injured animals, as well as, any animal found in violation of City Codes. All uninjured dogs and cats taken into custody by the Animal Control Officer will be delivered to the Hoisington Veterinary Hospital shelter located at 3 Northwest 90 Road just south of Hoisington. Fees for redemption of animals will be paid at the Hoisington Utility Billing Office located at 109 E. First St. Owners must present a fee receipt to recover impounded animals. Shelter hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to noon.
